Information from SCHA

The SCHA Turf Replacement Sub-Committee (TRSC) completed a report earlier this year. That report, and its recommendations have now been approved by the SCHA Board.

An important first-phase of those recommendations is the formation of a Turf Taskforce.

The report recommends:

6.5.1 Taskforce Capabilities Requirements

The Turf Taskforce should comprise a representative of each club, as well as (where possible) independent professionals. We recommend that the taskforce comprise between 8 and 10 people, including a chairperson. Current members of the TRSC should be encouraged to nominate for the taskforce.

We recommend identifying people with masters qualifications and/or considerable professional experience in each of the following domains:

  • Business
  • Marketing
  • Fundraising
  • Partnerships
  • Philanthropy
  • Media
  • Government
  • Legal
  • Project management
  • Change management
  • Research
  • Engineering and construction
  • Design and architecture
  • Environmental design
  • Hockey playing, coaching and technical experience (national and international)

Once the taskforce has been approved and formed, an appropriate implementation plan will be developed.

The Turf Taskforce will be commissioned to address the two specific needs identified in the report: Turf replacement and turf management and maintenance. The taskforce will be project-specific, with a clear mandate and strict timelines and reporting conditions, with a project report scheduled to be returned to the SCHA board by 31 January 2020 (with mid-project reports scheduled for November and December 2019).

Nominations
Clubs are requested to seek nominations immediately from their members, and submit two suitable candidates (from the guidelines provided) by 5pm Monday 26 August 2019.

Suitable candidates will then be appointed by the SCHA board of directors and notified by 5pm Monday 2 September.

First meeting
The first meeting will be scheduled for 6.00pm Tuesday 8 October 2019.
